The Barcelona Half Marathon, or “Mitja Marató de Barcelona“, is one of Europe’s most renowned half marathons, attracting runners from around the globe. Each year, this race offers a unique opportunity to run through the historic and modern streets of Barcelona, soaking up the city’s distinctive Mediterranean atmosphere. With a temperature of 15°C and sunny skies, athletes can perform and enjoy themselves on Catalonia’s asphalt. Generally held in February, this iconic race gathers over 23,000 participants from all corners of the world! One of the major draws of the Barcelona half marathon is its international character. Everyone comes together out of a passion for sport, enjoying unique landscapes between the historic center and the seaside, which only fuels the enthusiasm that carries runners throughout the kilometers!

The course, precisely 21.097 kilometers long, winds through the city’s most iconic neighborhoods. Runners pass by notable sites such as Parc de la Ciutadella, Arc de Triomf, Avenida Diagonal, and the beaches of the Catalan capital’s port, offering a blend of seaside views, modern architecture, and historic streets. The course is known for being relatively flat and fast, making it popular among those seeking to improve their personal bests. Moreover, the 2025 edition witnessed a new historic achievement with a world record broken on this ultra-fast route. It’s no coincidence that this race is so swift…

Indeed, an interesting aspect of the Barcelona Half Marathon is that it’s part of the “Circuito Nacional Running“. Inspired by the World Marathon Majors, this circuit unites the five main half marathons of the Iberian Peninsula (Seville, Madrid, San Sebastian, Valencia, and Barcelona), offering participants who complete these five races a distinct medal, heavily inspired by the World Majors medal design. Beyond the competitive and sporting aspect, the organization is committed to its participants, ensuring a flawless event for several years. With the event’s growing popularity, no fewer than 13 associations and over 650 volunteers work in tandem with the Barcelona Half Marathon. Attentive to details and runners’ motivation, the course creators have ensured there are more entertainment stages than kilometers to travel: 24 entertainment stands (concerts, bands, DJs…) will inspire participants to keep going! Regardless of their motivation, all participants share the same satisfaction at the finish line: wearing the colorful medal of an indispensable European race.
