25 → 26 October 2025 Lisbon, Lisbon District, Portugal 9km, 21km, 42km Road runningLisbon Marathon: the fast-paced celebration
Renowned for its incredible speed and impressive scenery, the Lisbon Marathon is, above all, a festive event. Established in 1986, this marathon quickly won the hearts of runners worldwide. After numerous editions and attracting more athletes each year, the organizers decided to emphasize the festive aspect of their event.
In 2013, the Lisbon Marathon joined the Rock’n Roll Marathon Series. As the name suggests, this series aims to make the events more enjoyable for the local population and especially for the runners. Six other marathons in Europe are part of this circuit: Madrid, Liverpool, Nice, Edinburgh, and Dublin. Lisbon is thus one of the lucky dates where sport and celebration become one. Local bands perform live along the course, and spectators can cheer on their loved ones while enjoying the music and warm atmosphere. There’s also a concert open to all, planned at the finish line. Besides being supported by musical notes, runners can unwind from the 42 km in front of a spectacular stage!
The Lisbon Marathon is a true gem. Like its counterpart, the half marathon, it is renowned for its speed and splendor. Participants start from Cascais, 30 km west of Lisbon. The course’s biggest asset is its location. Every year, runners marvel at a route that follows the coast 100%. And along the coast, there are plenty of sights to see. It’s a unique opportunity to view the Belem Tower, the ancient fort meant to protect the capital’s port, without the usual crowds of tourists.
To make the event shine in the eyes of runners from all over the world, the marathon isn’t the only distance on offer. It also includes a half marathon, a 5.5 km mini-marathon, a wheelchair race, a children’s race, and a 6.5 km walk for grandparents. In other words, the Lisbon Marathon has something planned for everyone!
