TCS Sydney Marathon
31 August 2025 Sydney, New South Wales, AustraliaThe Sydney Marathon: the 7th wonder
Since the 2000 Olympics, more than 35,000 kangaroos have been unleashed in the streets of Sydney! Late September marks a significant event for the city and its residents. With sports and running culture deeply embedded in Sydneysiders’ daily lives, the Sydney Marathon has become a staple event, and for good reason! This marathon has earned its reputation thanks to one of the most beautiful courses in the world, following the route of the 2000 Olympic marathon. The finish location has changed: the finish line is now in front of the Sydney Opera House!
The course is a perfect blend of urban landscape, culture, ocean, and nature. The Sydney Running Festival allows you to discover the magnificent urban sights of Sydney such as the Harbour Bridge, Moore Park, Centennial Park, and of course the Opera House! But the route also includes a detour through natural spaces and historic neighborhoods: The Rocks district, vast green areas, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Circular Quay, and many more! Additionally, the weather conditions are always pleasant since the race is held in the spring. Participants can enjoy the Australian sunshine without enduring oppressive heat. This is advantageous as the course, while relatively flat and fast, still features numerous bridges and a fair share of smaller inclines.
Rebranded as the Sydney Running Festival, the Sydney Marathon is more than just a marathon; it also celebrates sports. Thus, other events are offered to attract as many runners as possible, regardless of their level. Late September, starting from Bradfield Park, participants can also take part in a half-marathon, 10 km race, and even a 3.5 km Family Fun Run. Beyond the competitive aspect, the city of Sydney goes all out to ensure that the event is as festive as possible! Volunteers, locals, and organizers come together to support runners all the way to the finish line!
Often sold out within hours, securing a race bib requires early planning. It’s no wonder that the Sydney Marathon is a candidate to become the 7th marathon in the World Majors series! Its reputation spans across oceans, bringing together more than 40 different nationalities at the start of the same event. A true journey through Oceania, this marathon is to be savored one kilometer at a time.
